What Creates A Fear Of Close Contact?

A fear of close contact can be created if you have a negative or traumatic experience, when in close contact with another person or other people.

The traumatic event does not have to be related to touching or being touched by a person directly – it could be that something negative happened during a moment of personal contact and the subconscious mind associates the trauma with the presence of other people.

The Amygdala, a part of your brain that reacts to fear and puts us into fight, flight or freeze mode respsonds to external triggers or stimulus that your brain associates with danger. That could be being touched by another person, or the threat of being touched by another person.

The body and your emotions then respond to that threat, and you experience the symptoms that most likely led you to the conclusion that you have a phobia or fear. Symptoms can include palpitations, tightening of the throat, sweaty palms and a feelung of panic.
