Harley Street Therapist Christopher Paul Jones talks Botox, Fillers, and falling in love with ageing.
Botox and Fillers can leave us feeling better temporarily but on a psychological level they can be damaging. In this article I am going to tell you why I think that – Chris
I get many clients working on Harley Street who come to see me about how they feel about their appearance.
Harley Street is packed with offices of Doctors, Aestheticians and Plastic Surgeons – and many people who make their way here, are coming for something to be altered about their appearance. It’s therefore not uncommon for me to bump into some of these people and get asked about preventing ageing through mindset.
I have had sessions with many people who have asked me to turn back the hands of time or even to stop them from eating… Of course, I decline such suggestions, but what I do do when I meet someone like this is ask them to book a session with me so that we can talk about the fears that they have surrounding their appearance.
I can’t go into client details, but here is some advice that I have given them:
1. You can do some things to help yourself look and feel better but keep it in moderation:
In other words, I am not anti Botox or Fillers for example, by all means a tiny bit here and there can work wonders on someones confidence. BUT if you find that you cannot function without them and become dependent on them then it’s time to address the underlying problem. Which usually is a fear of ageing. But it’s not always that. It can also be a fear of not looking how we believe that society wants us to look. And this leads me onto the next point…
2. You need to throw away the ‘image’ that you have in your head about what you should look like as there will be many different faces of you in your life-time.
So many people who come to see me have an idea of who and what they would want to look like – and they can spend months or even years trying to look like that. Only to find that when they get that skinny body, the media has told us that Kim Kardashains curves are in …. (just an example, obviously).
Throw away the measuring stick because … 1. The media will always change the goal posts and 2. You are constantly changing, on a cellular level and much as you try you cannot stop this. The only way to stop this is through death. Celebrate and enjoy your body. Love every fine line and wrinkle, and every curve and freckle as ageing is a sign that your body is working as it should be.
LOVE EVERY FINE LINE AND WRINKLE, AND EVERY CURVE AND FRECKLE, AS AGEING IS A SIGN THAT YOUR BODY IS WORKING AS IT SHOULD BE – CHRIS JONES.
iF YOU FEEL THAT YOU NEED TO STOP THE HANDS OF TIME AND GETING BOTOX AND FILLERS HAS BECOME PART OF YOUR NORM, AND YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU WOULD FUNCTION WITHOUT THEM THEN THIS IS A FORM OF ADDICTION AND IS A BEHAVIOUR THAT CAN BE FIXED THROUGH A SESSION WITH ME.
You should be happy as you first and foremost and anything that you do should be to enhance that, not change that.
