Christmas this year will be a little bit different – but that doesn’t mean we can’t ENJOY it. Here are my best tips on how to feel positive during this ‘Covid Christmas’

ACCEPT THAT THINGS CANNOT BE AS YOU ARE USED TO AND PLAN YOUR VERY OWN CHRISTMAS.

Look for the positives, think about it, my usual blog post around this time of year would talk about how to get through the festive season when you have to spend all of your time with your family! How many of us used to dread all of that socializing at Christmas? – social Anxiety would peak in December. Look for the things that will be different, but embrace them as an opportunity to do something different.

If you always see your family, go to your parents for dinner, then why not book into your favourite restaurant (Tier level depending) and enjoy dining out on Christmas Day for a change? You get to do things your way this Christmas, so how will you fill your festive season? Think about it, no guests means that you can sit about drinking prosecco in your PJs.

Exercise – grab a notebook and write down 10 things that you can do differently, things that will light you up on the inside, and then get excited about creating your Christmas in YOUR way.

BE CREATIVE WITH HOW YOU SOCIALISE. THINK ‘THE VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY’.

Government guidelines state that we CAN mix with other people (please check gov.uk for the limit) but a lot of us are pretty anxious about that. The majority of people that I have spoken to about this are continuing to mix with their own households.

Families who have not spent a festive season apart are worried that things are looking bleak this Christmas.

So – be the one to instigate a VIRTUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY. Send invitations to those you love, get them to meet you online at a specific time for a virtual Christmas party. The party could include the following:

  • A Happy Christmas toast
  • A Christmas Quiz
  • Games – such as charades. And everyone wears their party hats.
  • A good old sing along. You can’t beat Christmas Carols.

TAKE THE CHRISTMAS CHEER SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE AND SPREAD CHRISTMAS FAR AND NEAR.

If you are bored, or sitting on the sofa at a lose end, why not hop onto social media and spread some Christmas Cheer? Try this Christmas Cheer Social Media challenge and send 10 people a happy Christmas message and add in a Quiz Question .. start a virtual Quiz with your friends list, set up a group, be inventive, just mingle and appreciate the people that you have around you. If you are feeling isolated, chances they are too.

I hope that these ideas help to jazz up your Christmas a little bit. I think we all know that this year things will be different, but different is always a bad thing. Make this a Christmas to look back on with fond memories…. ‘remember when ….’.

And of course, as always, if anxiety is getting bigger than you, or you are struggling with things, I am still taking clients for one to one sessions, so book a call with me and let’s talk about how I can help you.

I will speak to you soon, have a great weekend

Take Care

Chris. 🙂
