Fact: Frankie Boyle has a fear of flying.
It was revealed this week, that stand up comedian, Frankie Boyle has a fear of flying.
Let that sink in for a minute…
Frankie Boyle, the dry witted, ‘tough guy’ who we secretly love to hate, has a fear (yes, a fear) of flying.
According to the Scottish Herald, Boyle took 4 days to travel from Glasgow to Moscow, in order to film Frankie goes to Russia, BBC2, 9pm. Kudos to frankie, that for someone who once claimed that he would never fly again, making that journey is pretty incredible, however, to hear that it was pretty traumatic for him, made me reach out to Frankie and ask if he’d like a session with me.
His reply was NO.
This is of course fine if that’s how Frankie feels, but it did get me wondering, just why is it that some people put off dealing with their fears or phobias. My conclusion? The subconscious mind is what deals with a fear or phobia, and it is not based around logic. Therefore, when a person who has a fear or phobia is asked whether they’d like to deal with it, the very thought of even thinking about that fear or phobia, may just be all too much for them.

All too often people are led to believe that in order to fix a phobia, they are going to have to face up to their phobia head on, and feel the feelings that they have been doing their best to avoid for so long. For example – holding a spider if you have a fear of spiders. This can mean that many people resist going to see a phobia specialist as they fear that they will be made to confront their darkest fears head on. This is not actually true. – Christopher Paul Jones.
Working on your phobia doesn’t have to be scary.
When clients come to see me, many laugh during their session and often send feedback that tells me that coming to see me to work on their phobia was one of the best decisions that they ever made for themselves. Why?
Because working on your phobia does not have to be traumatic, and actually, as Harley Street’s leading flying phobia expert, I have made sure, that every client who comes to see me feels totally differently about the thing that they feared… in as little as one session.
I can understand why Frankie Boyle may have found it hard to make the call to come and see me – sometimes, especially for the tough guys, it can feel easier to just ignore things. Never fly again. Simple. However, there is a world out there, a world to be explored and discovered, and I personally don’t believe that anyone would choose to be prevented from doing that.
I also never had Frankie Boyle down as someone who would shy away from things.
Several people who I have spoken to have expressed shock at ‘Frankie Boyle’ having a phobia. He’s not scared of anything (or anyone for that matter) surely? What his admission has done for people is highlight the fact that fears and phobias don’t discriminate. ANYONE CAN BE AFFECTED, and ANYONE CAN BE CURED.
So, whoever you are, and whatever your fear or phobia may be, ask yourself, is living with it really worth it?
