Jane writes: Chris, I have recently lost my job after the place where I worked closed due to never really bouncing back after the pandemic, and I am completely lost at what I am going to do next. I really struggle with a fear of change, and am not sure how to feel positive about all of this, I was in my last job for almost two decades…

Chris says: A fear of failure, a fear of change … there can be all kinds of emotions that come up when you think about a new career, but for many of us that is our current reality.

A lot of people have lost their jobs during the pandemic – some people have lost a job, that was the job that they had had for the last 20 years. This is a lot to take in, and can lead to all kinds of symptoms ..

  • Feeling lost
  • Feeling unwanted
  • Feeling ‘redundant’
  • Fear around security and money

For some people, the very thought of having to look for something different, can be really terrifying for them.

On the other hand, some people lost their jobs and have started a whole new career – there has been a massive rise in online business, for example. We all know somebody who lost their day job and now sell on Amazon, for example.

So, why is it that for some of us, the thought of having to do something different, scares us, whilst others see it as a challenge? Why do some of us have a fear of failure, or a fear of change, whilst others seem to rise to the new challenge so easily?

In this weeks blog post I am going to talk about that, and address MINDSET. If you have found yourself in a position where a new job or even career is inevitable, then here is how to tackle that!

Think About What You ENJOY, And What You Are Good At.

Some of us get into a particular career path because it is where we landed, 20, 30 years ago. But as time passes, we as people grow and change. Ask yourself, have you ever sat and wondered what it would be like to do something different? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to do the one thing that you are actually good at?

But it’s baking cakes..  it’s writing … it’s making jewellery.. yes.. and all of these things can be FUN, you can be good at them AND can be turned into a business.

Any business coach worth their salt will tell you DO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY, FOLLOW YOUR PASSION – and I am here to suggest the same thing.

This is your chance to create the change that you have perhaps always dreamed of! So go for it, write down on a piece of paper all of the things that you are good at, all of the things that you LOVE doing and then think of 3 ways that you can monetise that.

This isn’t just about business either –  rather about narrowing your vision so that you are looking for the opportunities, jobs, that EXCITE YOU,

See This As A New Chapter, The Rest Of Your Story Is Unwritten.

You may feel like it is the end of an era when a job or career ends abruptly, but think of it as the end of a chapter.

You can appreciate the whole experience and look back with fond memories, as it is a forever in existence chapter – something that is part of your bigger life story, and something that you can fondly take forward with you.

So, with chapters in mind, think of what is happening now as simply a new chapter. Not the end of something, but a whole new chapter, a chapter in. its own right – and whatever happens next will simply be the next chapter.

This eases the feeling that something has ended and that we need to let go of it, get over it, and grieve it.

ALL that you have experienced and learned, YOU CAN TAKE FORWARD WITH YOU.

Step Into The Shoes Of The New You.

Okay, so close your eyes – imagine yourself heading out to work, or to your laptop in that coffee shop – wherever and whatever you new career is and where it takes you. Just imagine a morning where you are getting up and doing that.

Visualise yourself dressed in what you will be wearing. hear the sounds around you, notice the smells, the sights… now really enhance that. Make everything louder, bolder, brighter.

Next, take your favourite song, something that makes you feel amazing and powerful – and add it as a soundtrack.

Really get those vibes going, and when you feel like hell yes, I got this, pinch your forefinger and thumb together and anchor this.

Next time you are sitting worrying about the future, just hold onto this, put those fingers together and trigger than anchor, and approach the next step, the next phase of your life, with excitement, passion and vigour!

Hope this inspires you,

Until the next time,

Christopher.
