It’s that time of year again, where we make New Years Resolutions – but how do we plan for the future when it looks like we’ll be in a Lockdown? Here are 5 resolutions that you can stick to, even from your home during lockdown.
1. Resolution 1 – take up some form of exercise.
How many years have you vowed to take up some form of exercise, but then work and life just takes over you? Use your time in lockdown to get off that couch and exercise!
Inspiration: Buy an exercise bike and work out whilst watching a movie. Get out for a daily walk and wear ankle weights to build muscle. Head to Youtube and follow a personal trainer. No excuses this year, we have time in abundance.
2. Resolution 2 – drop a dress size.
We all vow to drop a dress size after indulging over Christmas and if we enter 2021 in lockdown, now is the time to do it. It all comes down to mindset, if you think you can, you can, if you think you can’t, you won’t.
Inspiration: Use a smaller plate, a side plate, and fill it with healthier food choices, three times a day. No snacking, and follow step one and stick to some exercise.
3. Resolution 3 – Speak to friends and family more.
Communication with those around us, is more crucial than ever during these strange times. Now, we have the TIME to reach out to others, so make a point to do this. Think of this as a wonderful opportunity to re-connect with those who you have been meaning to catch up with, or rekindle some old relationships.
Inspiration: Write a list of people who you would like to wish happy new year to and just get started.
4. Resolution 4 – Start that book, business, new hobby.
New Year is a time where we look at lifetime goals, and not just the short term. if you find yourself every New Years’ Eve talking about that book you are going to write, or that business you are going to start, NOW is the time to do that.
Inspiration: Take one small step towards achieving your goal, start one chapter, start your website, enrol on that new course.Just take ONE step today, don’t just think about it.
5. Resolution 5 – Reduce your time spent on bad habits.
It could be reducing the time that you spend watching television, drinking less alcohol, less time spent on social media. Whatever it is that you want to do less of, end your lockdown boredom by making THIS your focus.
Inspiration: It takes around 28 days to break a habit, so set yourself the next month to really make a difference. Making this your focus gives you something else to think about and you have the time in which to truly allow change to happen.
I know that it can feel really… depressing right now, another special occassion spent at home, away from loved ones. And no real sense of direction or certaintly of what to focus on. But with a little bit of determination on your part, you can choose something to focus on this January and find a resolution that you may actually stick to.
I hope that 2021 is going to be a better year for all of us, if 2020 taught us anything it’s that we are more resilient than we perhaps realised, so whatever 2021 has in store for us, I know that we can smash it! I will speak to you soon, but until then, enjoy the beginning of your new year, and enjoy hitting your goal with your resolution.
